The Prime & Feed System
Fertiliser alone only works as well as your plant can absorb it. The seaweed biostimulant primes the plant's biology — bigger roots, better nutrient uptake, stronger stress resistance — so the tomato feed delivers far more of its value. Used together every fortnight, they cover both halves of the equation.
Step 1 — Prime
Alga-Sol™ Seaweed Biostimulant
This isn't a boiled-down retail seaweed tonic. Alga-Sol begins as Ascophyllum nodosum gathered by hand on Scotland's Argyll Coast, reaching the Glasgow facility within a day of leaving the water. A chemical-free cold-press process then bursts the seaweed's cell walls without heat — keeping intact the fragile growth hormones that conventional alkaline extraction destroys. The finished extract sits at a balanced pH of 5–6, so it can be sprayed straight onto foliage with no scorch risk.
Key Benefits- ✓ Natural cytokinins, auxins & gibberellins drive stronger root systems and faster establishment
- ✓ Mannitol (2.01%) builds tolerance to drought, cold snaps & salty conditions
- ✓ Alginic acid (3.18%) improves soil structure and helps the root zone hold moisture
- ✓ Laminarins (1.17%) switch on the plant's own defences before problems arrive
- ✓ Chelated magnesium, zinc & iron keep chlorophyll production firing
- ✓ Independent field trials: potato yields up 21.2%, cereals up 15.2%, fruit sugar-acid ratio up 38.3%
- ✓ Trusted by the professionals — used on 60% of UK Premier League grounds & at Gleneagles

Step 2 — Feed
Tom-Sol Fortified Organic Tomato Feed
Where general-purpose fertilisers chase leafy growth, Tom-Sol is built for the fruit. Its NPK 4-3-8 formulation puts potassium in charge — the nutrient behind flower set, fruit swell, even ripening and natural sugar development — while chelated calcium and magnesium stay fully soluble at the roots, guarding container-grown plants against blossom end rot. Naturally derived seaweed extracts round out the formula for extra resilience, and the slightly acidic concentrate (pH 5.5–6.5) matches exactly what tomatoes prefer.
Key Benefits- ✓ High-potash 4-3-8 ratio for heavier fruit set, bigger fruit and sweeter flavour
- ✓ Chelated calcium & magnesium protect against blossom end rot in pots and grow bags
- ✓ Feeds the whole nightshade family — peppers, chillies & aubergines — plus roses & hydrangeas
- ✓ Seriously concentrated: this 5L bottle makes up to 1,250 litres of ready-to-use feed
- ✓ Biodegradable, vegan-friendly, and safe for bees, pets & children at applied dilution
- ✓ Outstanding value — works out around 5p per 4.5L watering can of mixed feed
- ✓ UK manufactured & batch tested in East Kilbride, Glasgow
| Situation | Rate | Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| Universal dilution | 15ml : 4.5L | ≈ 1 capful per gallon of water |
| Greenhouse & containers | 15ml : 4.5L | Weekly (twice weekly in peak summer) |
| Outdoor & allotment | 15ml : 4.5L | Every 7–10 days |
| Roses & hydrangeas | 15ml : 4.5L | Fortnightly, May–September |
Start feeding once the second flower truss has set fruit, and give each established plant roughly 0.5–1L of diluted feed per application. Water the root zone rather than the leaves. Avoid on leafy crops like lettuce and spinach where nitrogen-led growth is wanted.

| Day | What to Apply | How |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Alga-Sol at 1:200 | Foliar spray or water in — primes roots and nutrient uptake |
| Day 3–4 | Tom-Sol at 15ml per 4.5L | Water into the root zone while uptake is at its peak |
| Day 7–10 | Tom-Sol again | Continue the weekly cycle (greenhouse) or 7–10 day cycle (outdoors) |
| Day 14 | Alga-Sol at 1:200 | Repeat — the fortnightly prime restarts the cycle |
Both bottles are concentrates — always dilute before use, and apply mixed feed the same day rather than storing it. Remember the division of labour: Alga-Sol is a biostimulant, not a fertiliser replacement; Tom-Sol handles the nutrition side of the partnership.
Rated 4.9 Across Both Products
"Used on my allotment — tomatoes, courgettes and beans. The tomatoes in particular were remarkable, far more flavourful and higher yield than previous years."
"No more scorch risk when foliar spraying. The pH argument convinced me and I won't go back."
"Quick turnaround on the 5L order. Arrived next day as promised and well packaged."
