What Is Tomato Feed?
Tomato feed is a high-potassium liquid plant food formulated specifically for fruiting plants. Where general-purpose fertilisers focus on nitrogen for leaf growth, tomato feed delivers a higher ratio of potassium (potash) — the nutrient that drives flower set, fruit development, fruit size, ripening, and natural sugar content.
Tom-Sol Tomato Feed has an NPK ratio of 4-3-8, meaning every dose delivers balanced nitrogen and phosphorus alongside double-strength potassium — exactly what tomato, pepper, chilli, and aubergine plants need from flowering through to harvest.
Why Choose Tom-Sol Tomato Feed
Tom-Sol is formulated to outperform standard tomato feeds on the metrics that matter for a successful harvest — fruit size, flavour, disease resistance, and value per bottle.
The 4-3-8 NPK ratio delivers double-strength potassium — driving flower set, fruit swell, even ripening, and natural sugar development for noticeably better flavour.
Chelated calcium and magnesium remain fully soluble and available at the roots — preventing the classic calcium-lockout failures that cause blossom end rot in container-grown tomatoes.
Natural seaweed extracts stimulate beneficial soil microbes and build plant resilience against pests, heat stress, and short dry spells — giving plants the energy reserve to keep fruiting through tougher conditions.
Mix 15ml into 4.5L of water. A single 1-litre bottle produces up to 250 litres of ready-to-use feed — and a 5-litre bottle makes up to 1,250 litres. Exceptional value per dose.
100% biodegradable, vegan-friendly, and safe for bees, earthworms, pets, and children once diluted and applied as directed. Manufactured to UK environmental standards.
Works equally well on peppers, chillies, aubergines (same nightshade family), plus high-potash-loving flowering plants including roses and hydrangeas. One bottle, many uses.

How to Use — Dosage & Timing
Tom-Sol is a concentrate — always dilute before use. Shake the bottle well, then mix at the recommended rate and water plants at the base around the root zone, avoiding wetting the foliage where possible.
For roses, hydrangeas and other flowering plants, apply at the same 15ml per 4.5L dilution every 2 weeks during the May–September flowering season. See the "Which plants can you feed with tomato feed?" guide for plant-by-plant guidance.
What Else Can I Use Tomato Feed On?
Despite the name, "tomato feed" is really shorthand for high-potash plant food — and any plant that flowers and fruits benefits from extra potassium. Tom-Sol works equally well on the plants below.
Peppers
Same nightshade family as tomatoes — identical feeding needs. Boosts fruit set, ripening, and capsaicin development.
Read the guide →Chillies
High-potash feed intensifies heat and ripening colour. Apply weekly from second truss set through harvest.
Read the guide →Aubergines
Nightshade-family fruiting plant. Identical dilution and frequency to tomatoes — supports the heavy fruit set aubergines produce.
Read the guide →Roses
Potassium drives flowering and disease resistance. Apply fortnightly from May–September for stronger, longer-lasting blooms.
Read the guide →Hydrangeas
Hydrangeas reward high potash with bigger flower heads. Particularly helpful for repeat-flowering varieties.
Read the guide →Other Fruiting Plants
Cucumbers, courgettes, melons, and squashes all benefit from the high-potash boost once they begin flowering.
Read the guide →Where Tom-Sol is not the right choice: avoid using it on leafy crops like lettuce, spinach, and herbs where nitrogen-led growth is preferred over fruit and flower production. For those, choose a balanced general feed instead.
How Tom-Sol Compares to Standard Tomato Feeds
Most supermarket tomato feeds deliver a basic NPK ratio and little else. Tom-Sol is engineered with the secondary nutrients that determine whether a tomato season ends well or in disappointment.

| NPK Ratio | 4-3-8 (high-potash) | 4-5-8 or similar | Varies, often diluted |

| Natural seaweed extracts | ✓ Yes — resilience boost | No | No |
| Concentration | 1L makes 250L | 1L makes ~100–200L | Pre-diluted (low value) |
| Value per litre applied | ~5p per 4.5L feed | 10–20p per 4.5L | £1–£3 per 4.5L equivalent |

What Gardeners Say
Real customer feedback from gardeners using Tom-Sol on tomatoes, peppers, chillies and aubergines in greenhouses, grow bags, and allotments across the UK. We publish only verified reviews — no fabricated or paid testimonials.
Best tomato crop in years
"Switched from Tomorite to Tom-Sol this season after reading the NPK breakdown. The fruit set is noticeably heavier on my Sungold and Gardener's Delight — and I haven't seen a single case of blossom end rot. The 1L bottle lasted me the whole greenhouse season."
Works on peppers too
"Bought it for the tomatoes, ended up using it on my chillies and peppers as well. Capsaicin levels in the Carolina Reapers were the best they've ever been. The concentrate makes incredible value — 5 litres has lasted me two full seasons on the allotment."
Roses bloomed all summer
"Tried it on my David Austin roses on the advice of the article on the website. Fortnightly feeding from May through September gave me the strongest, longest-lasting bloom display I've ever had. Will be ordering the 5L for next year."
